Platinum’s purity is a symbol of truth and authenticity; platinum’s rarity commemorates every extraordinary moment in life; platinum does not tarnish, fade or loses its substance. People who chose to wear platinum share the character traits of the metal: strong, confident, dare to be yourself.
Platinum Attitude
The theme of Platinum jewellery category is “Platinum Attitude”. Designers are invited to explore the use of platinum in daily jewellery, creating accessible, playful, fashionable and beautiful designs suitable for everyday wearing.
Design requirements
- The category is daily-wear jewellery. Entrants are encouraged to take into consideration of 1) novelty and innovation, 2) commercial viability, 3) as well as the design’s wearability on daily occasion.
- The theme “Platinum Attitude” is not gender or age specific.
- There is no limitation to the product type. Designs can be for pendants, necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, anklets, brooches etc.
- Entrants may incorporate other materials such as diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, wood, jade, etc, with Platinum as the predominant metal of the design.
- No karat or yellow gold, or any endangered materials may be used in any submission.
- Each jewellery design must (i) be an original creation (ii) that has not been used for commercial purposes, exhibited publicly or submitted to any other competition, or that is owned or with copyright by any party
- Sketches by hand or by computer aided drawing are acceptable. The proportion should be 1:1 and in A4 size(210mmX297mm)only. If you are submitting more than one design, please submit each sketch on a separate sheet and specify clearly the material(s) used on each design.

PGI was founded in 1975 and is a trade organisation supported by the major South African platinum producers. PGI has specialist teams dedicated to developing demand for platinum jewellery through consumer and trade facing programmes in the four key jewellery markets of China, India, Japan and USA.
